Treatments
Sports Massage is a form of massage that uses a variety of techniques including soft tissue release, trigger pointing, passive stretching, muscle energy techniques, myofascial release and scar tissue breakdown, just to name a few.
Contrary to popular belief, Sports massage is not necessarily a painful treatment, some areas may need to be worked harder than others but speaking from both a client and therapist perspective, unbearably painful treatments only cause more pain and potential anxiety over future treatments. So it is important to communicate with me throughout the session to manage your comfort levels.
Some therapists choose to use a combination of sports massage with things like cupping, dry needling, shockwave therapy and taping. Currently I offer Sports massage only as part of my treatment.
Despite the name, Sports Massage is not solely for ‘Sports’ people. It can be used for anyone, athletes or non-athletes, anyone who is struggling with musculoskeletal pain or generally looking for improvement in physical and mental wellbeing. It can be very helpful in the management of mild conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tendinopathies, frozen shoulder, sciatica and tennis elbow and many more.
There are a wealth of benefits to treatment including:
-Improving blood flow/circulation
-Reducing muscle soreness, tension and stiffness
-Improving range of motion and movement
-Improves posture
-Improves mobility
-Reducing injury risk
-Aids recovery
-Reduces stress
Within the treatment room, I have a very friendly and relaxed approach (there’s nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable going for a treatment) but I understand the importance of getting the best outcome from your treatment plan, ensuring every single one is individualised to you as everyone is different and there is never ‘one size fits all’ with the human body. My ultimate goal is to help get you to where you need to be.
When you first arrive for your initial treatment, I will spend 15-20 minutes chatting with you about your reasons for treatment, your expectations, medical history, ask you some questions about your day to day activities and get you to fill out a small form to confirm your consent to assessment and treatment.
I will then carry out a physical assessment which will be dependent on your reasons for treatment but may include joint range of motion, assessing your posture, walking pattern or other movements. This will then allow me to tailor your treatment for the best outcome. If you have booked in for an initial appointment and are comfortable enough to, please bring shorts to wear as this will help me to carry out a clearer and accurate assessment of the hip and leg areas.
During treatment, I will apply different techniques and levels of pressure so I encourage you to keep communication with me so we can optimise the session within your comfort levels.
I will provide you with recommendations for post-treatment care such as stretches, rehabilitation and strengthening exercises, hydration and rest to enhance the benefits of the treatment.
